In 1974, Jess Jackson, the founder of the company, buys a nut garden in Lake County, north of the Napa Valley, and plants it with vines of Chardonnay. After 8 years old, Jess sold his first crop at the New York Oyster Bar. Wine really liked the wife of President Reagan, Nancy, and began to be served in the White House. Kendall-Jackson is the only American winery to own a stake in a French wine barrel factory. Since 1982, wine aged in French oak. In 1992, the Winters Wine Reserve became No. 1 in US sales and remains so to this day. In 2011 Kendall-Jackson wins his tenth award in the Winery of the Year nomination for Wine & Spirits Magazine. In 2017, Kendall-Jackson becomes the winery of the year according to Wine Enthusiast.
