Muirhead’s

Muirhead's whisky was first produced by Charles Muirhead and Sons. The company, located in Edinburgh near the port of Leith, was founded in 1824 to trade in wine. Some time later, the flagship brand Muirhead's Blue Seal was released.

The roots of the Muirhead family go back to the distant times when the Scottish clan was in the service of King James IV. In 1513, one of the disastrous battles between the English and Scots took place on Brenxton Moor on Flodden Field, resulting in the death of more than a thousand Scots, including the clan lord - John Muirhead and King James IV. Translated from Gaelic, the surname Muirhead means "Highest Point of the Moor" or "Head of the Moor".

In 1920, the company was acquired by Macdonald & Muir Distillers, better known as the Glenmorangie Company. Since then, Muirhead’s whiskey has begun to gain popularity around the world. In addition to Muirhead’s Blue Seal, the company began to produce the Gold Label, Silver Label and Old Maturity brands. In 2008, the company passed into the hands of another famous family of distillers, who are also the owners of Tullibardine Highland Single Malt Distillery. Today, the Muirhead’s brand belongs to the American company Frank-Lin Distillers Products. Each bottle of whiskey features a kilt strap - the clan crest, with hands holding a sword raised up in the center. The clan’s slogan - Auxilio Dei ("With God's help") is also present on the bottle of whiskey.
