Domaine du Tariquet

The company was born in the vicinity of the city of Eauze in Gascony at the beginning of the 20th century, when the lands that now belong to Château du Tarique were bought by Jean-Pierre Artaud, a native of the Pyrenees region, who literally fell in love with this area and did not hesitate to spend his savings on 7 hectares of vineyards, which were in a sad state after the invasion of phylloxera. Later, after the Second World War, Pierre Grassa, who had fought in the war in the ranks of the French Resistance, married Artaud's heiress, Helene. This is how the Grassa family was created, which now manages the estate and the company. From a modest Armagnac production, the company has grown to become one of the most important in the Bas-Armagnac region, largely due to the creation in 1972 by the children of Helene and Pierre Grasse of a company for the production and distribution of Armagnac, which managed to create a real boom in the market of estate Armagnac. Over its more than a century of history, the estate has grown to 900 hectares of land and is one of the few independent family businesses in Bas-Armagnac.

Distillates in Tarik are produced from Ugni Blanc and Baco grapes, in the traditional ratio of 60/40%. Distillation is carried out in the traditional way of a single slow distillation in an alambic, over a wood fire. The distillate obtained from the alambic has a strength of 52-74 degrees. Armagnacs are aged in barrels made of Gascon black oak: the first year in new ones, in order to accumulate as many tannins as possible, and then in older barrels, which give Armagnac its indescribable softness. The barrels are made by local artisans from oak grown in the Gers department, the best for Armagnac.
