Quintas de Melgaço
Returning from years of living as an expat in Brazil, Amadeu Abilio Lopez brought with him more than just wealth. He had a dream, a desire, an idea that he thought about all the years he spent away from his beloved home. He wanted to give small producers the opportunity to make their own wines. With an entrepreneurial spirit, a strong sense of community and uniting the interests of several hundred producers from the region, he laid the foundations of what would become "Quintas de Melgaço".
Today, with more than 530 shareholders who are local producers and the social status that Amadeu Abilio Lopez has given to the municipality of Melgaçu, the company is a powerful driving force in the region, as a true example of social action based on the unification of efforts and initiatives.
Here, in the north-west of Portugal, surrounded by rocks and hills, where the Atlantic air blows downstream of the Minho River, Albariño, a grape variety unique in the world, is born. Small bunches of white grapes were born as a result of a combination of ideal natural factors and human know-how.
