Sieur d'Arques
The company Sieur d'Arques (Sieur d'Arc) was founded in 1946 by a small group of winemakers from the Limoux region. It is believed that it was in this area of Languedoc in 1531 that the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire created the world's first sparkling wine - blanket. Probably the lord of the Sieur d'Arc region was a big fan of this wine. He is mentioned in a 1544 document, an extract from the treasurer of the city of Limoux, for ordering "six clarets for his supper and four pints of blanquette and two clarets for his dinner." The winemakers of Limu felt that the name of this historical figure was perfect for the name of their company.
The Sieur d'Arques estate continues to produce ancient Blanquette wine, which consists mainly of the local Mozac variety. In addition, cremans began to be produced in the 1990s. The company owns 1,800 hectares of vineyards in the region. Due to the fact that they are located on different soils and in different climatic zones, the winemakers of the estate have the opportunity to choose the ideal conditions for each variety that is used in the Sieur d'Arques wines.
