Adega de Azueira
The Adega de Azueira winegrowing association, founded on March 9, 1959, by 38 partners, is located in the municipality of Mafra, in the Lisbon region of Portugal. Created to address the modernization and marketing challenges faced by small and medium-sized winemakers in the 1950s and 1960s, the association established itself as a collective solution for improving the quality and distribution of wines from the western region of Portugal. Adega de Azueira produced its first wine on September 30, 1969, bringing together 256 members, officially commencing operations.
The vineyards are located in Lisbon on Jurassic and Cretaceous soils. The microclimate and hilly terrain, combined with the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, create ideal conditions for the production of rich and highly aromatic wines.
The main vineyards are located in the Serra do Socorro, Serra da Vila, Picanseira, and Encarnação, in the municipalities of Mafra, Sobral de Monte Agraço, and Torres Vedras. The association produces approximately 11 million liters of wine annually.
