Tertre Roteboeuf

Originally, the estate and its fine vineyard, known as "Le Tertre," belonged to the future father-in-law of François Mitjavile. Following his death in 1961, the property was inherited by his daughter, Milut. After marrying François, the couple set out to transform the estate into a profitable business. However, with little prior knowledge of winemaking, they first needed to hone their skills; Milut enlisted the help of cousins who already owned Château Bellefont-Belcier, while François left his job in the transport industry to undergo training and an internship at Château Figeac. By 1977, they were ready to begin, and François marked the new venture by renaming the property to include the word "Rotebeouf." The first vintage was released in 1978, but it was not until 1985—after François implemented a series of new techniques—that the estate gained a significant following; by 1989, it was already regarded as one of the finest estates in Saint-Émilion.
