Contrabando

The roots of this high-quality rum making family trace back to the mid-19th century.
It all began with the arrival of Mallorca born officer Juanillo Oliver to Cuba who, once completed his military service, decided to settle on the island.
There he began the development of a prosperous tobacco and sugar cane Hacienda. He would later veer towards the traditional rum making art which gave his family renown and fortune. As a result of the Cuban revolution, in 1959 part of the family would move away from the island.
Pedro Ramón Oliver, from the newer generations of the Oliver family, returned to Cuba in the 1980s and recovered some of the old records and family documents. The original Oliver rum making formula, which gave the family much of its renown in the 19th century, was found among them.
It was this discovery which encouraged him to reclaim rum making in the early 1990s. This time he chose the Dominican Republic for the rebirth of Oliver’s famous rums, due to the similar climate conditions with Cuba.
Today Oliver & Oliver is without a doubt one of the world’s best rum makers. With their own signature style, they blend the original family formulas with the most modern and elegant out of the Dominican Republic. Oliver rums are distinguished by their high quality, aroma and flavor.
