Rudeles

Rudeles is a family business founded on the passion and work of the owners' fathers and grandfathers and the development of a wine culture that has almost disappeared in the region. Rudeles has four owners, all of whom are closely associated with Peñalba.

The Rudeles vineyards are located between Peñalba de San Esteban and Atauta, in the eastern part of DO Ribera del Duero, and cover 17 hectares at an altitude of over 900 meters.
The uniqueness of Atauta consists of a high altitude even for Ribera (almost 1000 m), extremely old vines and peculiar soils: clay and sand are supplemented by a powerful rock layer supporting them from below. Almost a kilometer high gives the grapes a special character. Even in summer the nights are very cool and the berries ripen slowly. The harvest in Ataut begins in October. The taste of the wine is concentrated, but at the same time balanced, and the aroma is complex.
The vines are planted on the hillside in many tiny plots, some with just 50 vines. Almost all vines are over 100 years old, some were planted before phylloxera, and all are capable of withstanding harsh climatic conditions.

In total, Rudeles owns seventy different vineyard plots, all small, scattered in four separate sections, each of which is vinified separately. From one vine, the harvest can be as little as 200 grams of grapes. High-tech winemaking guarantees gentle handling of the berries from these vineyards without excessive manipulation. Terroir and vines require that all work in the vineyard is done by hand. At the winery, the whole process of winemaking from grape intake to fermentation, aging, transfusion and bottling is strictly controlled.
