Jean-Pierre Moueix
The company was founded by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1937. As a very young man, Jean-Pierre arrived in Libourne in 1930 and began selling Bordeaux wines. After some time, he turned his attention to the wines of such regions of Bordeaux as Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, whose unique climate and rich soils produce delicious grapes. In 1937, Moueix founded his own company and set off on a journey across northern Europe in search of connoisseurs of his wines. After World War II, Jean-Pierre acquired several estates in Pomerol, and in 1964 he bought 50% of the vineyards of Château Petrus. By the end of the 60s, Moueix achieved his cherished goal: the wines of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion occupy a worthy place on the wine lists of the best restaurants around the world. Today, the business of Jean-Pierre Moueix is continued by his son, Christian Moueix. The company owns and manages many of the finest chateaux in the Pomerol wine region, which Moueix has built a great reputation for. Jean-Pierre and Christian Moueix have also made Pomerol famous around the world, putting it on a par with the great Medoc. Jean-Pierre Moueix strives for absolute quality and is renowned for its superb wines. Christian Moueix is one of the most prestigious and respected names in the world of wine. Decanter magazine named Christian Moueix "Man of the Year" in 2008. He currently manages ten estates in Bordeaux, including Château Petrus, Château Trotannoy, and the famous Dominus Estate in Napa Valley.
