Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste

The Château Grand Puy Lacoste wine estate is located in the Bages hills, a few kilometres from the town of Pauillac. The chateau has a long-standing reputation for producing excellent red wines in the Bordeaux style from Pauillac. The estate owns 36 hectares of vineyards, where they grow mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) with a small addition of Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) on gravel soils lying on a limestone foundation. The winery shares part of its name with the neighbouring Château Grand Puy Ducasse, this is explained by the fact that both chateaus once had the same owner and the same territory, until in 1750 part of the land on the Grand Puy hill was sold to Pierre Ducasse, who began producing his own wine. The extensive renovation of the old and dilapidated cellars of Château Grand Puy Lacoste was fully completed in 1982, when Xavier Bory, who had owned the Château since 1978, produced his most successful vintage.
