Torre Oria
Bodegas Torre Oria is located in the Spanish region of Utiel-Requena (southeast of Valencia), a wine-growing region whose history dates back to 700 AD. The founders of the Torre Oria winery are the Oria de Rueda family, who moved in 1897 from the north of Spain to the town of Requena in Valencia. At that time, this area was an industrial center for the production of silk. Upon arrival, the Oria family began building a luxurious villa, which was named Villa Inigo. The mansion was designed by the famous architect José Donderis. Subsequently, a winery was built here, where wines were produced for their own consumption. The estate received its name Torre Oria ("Oria Tower") thanks to the white stone tower with a beautiful dome, which became the symbol of the estate. In 1954, the heirs of the family decided to sell the entire property. After some time, the estate had several owners. One of the owners was an oenologist, had extensive experience in the French region of Champagne and was an expert in the production of sparkling wines. His appearance became an incentive and a push for all the other owners of the winery to start producing Cava. The first batch produced 30,000 bottles. As a result of the hard work of all members of the winery, in 1993 the Torre Oria estate became the first company in Spain that was officially allowed to produce wines of controlled origin outside their historical homeland. In 2013, the Torre Oria winery was acquired by Vintes Wines, which made it possible to develop the brand on international markets. Today, the company is one of the most promising enterprises in the region.
