Torre Oria

Bodegas Torre Oria is located in the Spanish region of Utiel-Requena (southeast of Valencia), a wine-growing region that dates back to 700 AD.
The founder of the Torre Oria winery is the Oria de Rueda family, who moved in 1897 from the north of Spain to the town of Requena in Valencia. At that time, this area was an industrial center for the production of silk. Upon arrival, the members of the Oriya family began construction of a luxury villa called Villa Inigo. The mansion was designed by the renowned Valencia architect, Jose Donderis. Subsequently, a winery was built here, where wines were made for their own use. The farm got its name Torre Oria ("Tower of Oria") thanks to a tower made of white stone with a beautiful dome, which has become a symbol of the estate.

In 1954, the heirs of the family decided to sell the entire property. After some time, the estate acquired several owners. One of the owners was an oenologist, had good experience in the French Champagne region and was an expert in the production of sparkling wines. Its appearance became an incentive and impetus for all other winery owners to start producing Cava. The first batch produced 30,000 bottles. Due to the hard work of all members of the winery in 1993, Torre Oria became the first company in Spain to be officially allowed to produce wines of controlled origin outside their historic homeland.
In 2013, the Torre Oria winery was acquired by Vintes Wines, which made it possible to develop the brand in international markets. Today the company is one of the most promising enterprises in the region.

The wine-growing region is located between the Castile plateau and the Mediterranean coast, 60 km from the sea. One of the main characteristics is the height difference from 650 to 905 meters above sea level, another very important factor for the quality of the grapes is limestone and sandy soils, as well as large fluctuations in temperature between day and night. This set of these geographic characteristics gives wines and cavas their unique characteristics.

As the vine ages, its yield decreases, resulting in better quality grapes. This means that older vines produce grapes with a more intense and concentrated flavor, resulting in outstanding wines. Bodegas Torre Oria is fortunately surrounded by one of the largest clusters of ancient vineyards in Europe. Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are selected for the production of white wines.
