Barahonda

Bodegas Barahonda belongs to the Candela family, which has been engaged in viticulture and winemaking for 4 generations. Around the middle of the 19th century, Pedro Candela Soriano grew grapes, produced and sold small volumes of wine in the local market. In 1925, Antonio Candela Garcia became the owner of a small winery and later handed it over to his son Antonio Candela Poveda, who expanded the company significantly in a relatively short time.

The Candela family has been working with the vine for decades and Barahonda is a reflection of their family passion. To date, the family owns 150 hectares of vineyards in DO Yecla, and another 600 hectares are under the constant supervision of the company's technical department, in order to obtain the best berries for the production of their wines. Economy Barahonda is considered the second largest winery in the region. The course for the production of high-quality bottled wine was taken in 1999. The Bodegas Barahonda building was built in 2003, surrounded on all sides by old bush vines, has a peculiar shape of straight symmetrical lines and is harmoniously integrated into the landscape of the valley. The winery is equipped with modern equipment, including steel vats and new French and American oak barrels.

The Barahonda estate produces DO Yecla wines. The family also owns a company called Bodegas Antonio Candela, focused on the production of table wines, both in bottles and in BIB format. The Barahonda estate produces intense and full-bodied wines with character. They receive rave reviews and awards every year from local and international wine critics. The company's key wines are Barahonda, Carro and Heredad Candela. The logo of the Barahonda economy says that their wines have a direct connection with the land where they are created, and people work with them from the very roots until the moment of bottling. The premium wines of the estate come from Campo Arriba plots, which are 80% limestone, 5% sand and 15% clay, while the most drinkable and rounded wines are grown on the lands of Campo Abajo, on clay plots.
