Waterkloof Circle of Life, Stellenbosch
Interesting Facts
The Circle of Life line tells the story of how in less than 10 years, a dying farm has become a living organism through biodynamic practices, and now the wines of this line feel the full potential and true nature of the Waterkloof terroir. Circle Of Life red wine changes its varietal composition from year to year and grapes are always picked from different sites, with different age of vines, altitude, terroirs and expositions. The label shows the life cycle of the vine from the beginning of flowering to hibernation, the same cycle is noticeable when applying biodynamic practices, the final goal of which is to feed the soil at the right time and maintain balance in the soil by adding bacteria, microbes and organic compost. Each variety was aged separately in French barrels, 600-liter barrels were allocated to Rhone grades, and 225-liter barrels were allocated. In total, only 20% of the barrels were new in order to avoid the dominance of oak tones over soil and varietal characteristics.
