Domaine Josmeyer

The estate is located in Witzenheim near the city of Colmar, occupies 28 hectares and is divided into 90 separately allocated vineyards, of which 28% are Riesling, 24% are Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 21% are Pinot Gris, 19% are Gevurztraminer and 10% are Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir. The estate works with all Alsatian varieties and uses a terroir approach. The estate has plots located in some of the best Grand Cru vineyards: Hengst and Brand.

The beginning was laid in 1854, when Alois Meyer (restaurateur and merchant) began to produce wines from family vineyards. The name Josmeyer appeared in 1963, when the first 3 letters of the name of the representative of the second generation were added to the surname - Joseph Meyer, who even before the war raised the wines to a new level of quality. Actively involved in public life, Hubert Meyer ran for president of France several times. In 1966, his eldest son Jean, taking over the management of the winery, brought a bit of creativity to the life of the Josmeyer company, creating a series of wines "Artists", on the labels of which, changed every 2 years, were depicted the works of modern masters of painting. Thanks to him, Josmeyer products entered the wine elite of Alsace.

Now the estate is managed by the fifth generation - Celine and Isabelle Meyer. Celine, with an artistic and philological education, is responsible for administration and marketing, Isabelle studied viticulture and oenology and works in the cellar, responsible for vinification and the creation of cuvées. In 2004, the company became the owner of the AB (Agriculture Biologique) bio-certificate.
