Quinta do Portal

The family that owns Quinta do Portal has been involved in viticulture in the Douro Valley since 1477, when King Alfonso V awarded Alfonso de Mansilha a plot of land. For the last 100 years, the family has been producing port wine. In 1756 Frei Joao de Mansilha played a very important role in the process of establishing the boundaries of the Douro region and defining a set of rules for the production of top quality port wines.

The Quinta do Portal project itself was born in the early 90s. 20th century in the format of a boutique winery with the aim of producing dry Douro DOC wines, premium ports and Moscatels.
The estate was founded on the territory of the Quinta do Muros wine estate in the Douro Valley, where the production of port wines has been established since the 19th century. The winery building itself was completely completed in 2008. famous Portuguese architect, Pritzker Prize winner – Alvo Siza Veira. A lot of slate and cork were used as facing materials - materials that are rich in the Douro region, and the building itself is very harmoniously integrated into the local landscape.
