Giodo

Carlo Ferrini is one of Italy’s most renowned winemakers, with a professional career spanning over 30 years and a winery that is among the most prestigious in Italy. In 2002, when he bought his first plot of land, Ferrini began a new adventure and a new challenge that would become the fulfillment of his long-standing passion. The name GIODO is a tribute to Carlo’s parents, Giovanna and Donatello.

Today, the winery, located halfway between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo, has 5.5 hectares of vineyards. Here, Ferrini planted the Sangiovese clones that he has found most convincing over the years. A total of eight different clones, all of which have similar characteristics: low yields, low vigor, loose bunches and small berries. The same clones were used on a second plot that Ferrini discovered a few years later, two and a half hectares of uncultivated land, this time at an altitude of 400 meters, with deeper, rockier soil. In 2019, another hectare at the same altitude will be cultivated.
