Cogno
The Cogno winery was founded in the footsteps of master winemaker Elvio and continues to produce wines today following the family history. Wines that preserve tradition and style, reflecting the flavours and grape varieties of the Langhe. Elvio Cogno was 60 years old when he decided to start from scratch. In 1990, he bought Cascina Nuova in Ravera, a large farmhouse located just below the town of Novello. Elvio’s daughter Nadia Cogno and her husband Walter Fissore worked with him to turn the dream into reality. The first harvest was in 1991. The wines appeared on the market four years later under the name Barolo Ravera. It was the first bottle to include the name of the vineyard and terroir on the label, known as “menzione geografica”, a practice that was not regulated for many years after.
