High West Distillery

High West is an American company in the state of Utah in the western United States, founded in 2006 by spouses David and Jane Perkins on the basis of an old distillery built in 1870, which at one time served as a stable. David, a biochemist by profession, was inspired by the idea of opening his own plant, seeing parallels between the processes of fermentation, distillation and his profession after visiting several whiskey factories in Kentucky. "High West" in Russian translation sounds like "Wild West" and enchanted by both the romance of the 19th century and the beauty of the prairies against the backdrop of high mountains, the family moved to Park City in 2004 to start a new business. Two or three years were spent on preparation, construction of a production facility, warehouses and the acquisition of appropriate equipment, and the first distillation of "High West" took place in 2007. Despite the tough competition, High West whiskey was such a commercial success that in 2015 the Perkins founded another distillery in the village of Wanship, with a population of 400 and a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains (the main mountain range in the Cordillera system) in the spirit of classic Western scenes. Since this place is an intersection of interstate highways, the couple decided to organize tours of the production, open a demonstration and tasting salon and a restaurant, which is visited not only by those driving along the highway, but also by residents of the nearby mining town. Over the past decade, High West has received numerous awards at national and international competitions, and in 2016 the American specialized magazine Whiskey Advocate named the enterprise "Distiller of the Year".
