Chateau Bellefont-Belcier

Built in the late 18th century, the Bellefont-Belcier estate is located on the southern slopes of Saint-Emilion, next to Chateau Pavie, Chateau Larcis Ducasse and Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf. Chateau Bellefont-Belcier was originally owned by a very influential family in Bordeaux. In the late 18th century, Count Louis-François de Bellefont-Belcier first planted a vineyard and in the early 19th century built a chateau, which he named Bellefont. Belle Fontaine means "beautiful fountain" and is a reference to the many springs hidden in the hillside into which the roots of the vines cut. The chateau passed into the hands of the Faure family in the late 19th century. It was then that the wines from the vintages of the Chateau Bellefont-Belcier vineyard received many awards, including a gold medal in Bordeaux at the Paris Competition in 1892. At the same time, the vineyard and winery were reconstructed by one of Pierre Faure's sons, an agronomist who designed the famous round vat, which still stands today and is one of the jewels of the estate. In 2006, Château Bellefonds-Belsier was classified as a Grand Cru. In 2017, the estate was acquired by Peter Kwok and his son Howard, becoming part of the large international company Vignobles K.
