Pauly
The Pauli family has been involved in winemaking on the Mosel for several generations. But in 2004, the representative of the latest generation, Axel Pauli, took up the targeted development of the farm. Axel, who received an excellent oenological education, managed to work in wineries in other regions of Germany, as well as in California, New Zealand and France.
The farm is located in the village of Lieser, not far from the town of Bernkastel. Very steep slopes in this part of the Mosel make work extremely difficult (the slope angle can reach 80%). The area of vineyards is 10 hectares. Most of it is in the vineyards of Lieserer Niederberg-Helden and Bernkastel-Kueser Kardinalsberg, which are among the top in the region.
Axel tries to combine the collective experience of his ancestors with modern scientific achievements. The connection with tradition and the contribution of previous generations is also emphasized in the minimalist label, where three profiles - grandfather, father and himself - are horizontally folded into the landscape of the Mosel. Axel creates wines in a very pure, light, typical Mosel style - he compares them to spring water. At the same time, the wines are characterized by mineral finesse, low alcohol levels and a fairly long finish.
