Interesting Facts

The vineyards of Milly-Lamartine, situated west of a long ridge of limestone hills (stretching from Tournus in the north to Fuissé in the south), occupy the westernmost plots of the Mâconnais wine region. The area’s unique character stems from the cooler climate typical of the higher-altitude sites of the Haut-Mâconnais, where elevations range from 290 to nearly 400 meters. The name "Lamartine" was added to the village name "Milly" in 1902 to honor the famous poet Alphonse de Lamartine, who served as the village mayor and owned an estate there. The wine undergoes fermentation in a combination of stainless steel (80%) and oak (20%) and is aged on fine lees for 8–9 months.
