Vriesenhof
Vriesenhof Stellenbosch, built over 43 years ago, is located in the Paradiskloof Valley and has retained the same appearance as Jan Coetzee, the original owner and first winemaker, endowed it. In 1980, Jan left the iconic Kanonkop estate in Stellenbosch, where he had worked as a winemaker and viticulturist since 1968.
Over a 12-year period, Jan and Kanonkop became two of the biggest names in South African wine following the release of the first Kanonkop Estate wines from the 1973 vintage.
Having left Kanonkop to start his own winery, Ian had only one requirement: he wanted south-facing vineyard slopes and close proximity to the ocean at Falls Bay, for example, south of Stellenbosch, where he could cross the Eerste River into another great area of the region - the Stellenbosch mountain and into the much longer and wider Helderberg region.
