Interesting Facts

Duke of Sussex fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. After about 5 days, the wine is fortified with grape brandy, which stops fermentation and leaves the right amount of sugar (50 grams per liter). Next comes the stage of make-up. This Madeira is produced by the 'estufagem' method, when the wine is heated to a temperature of 50 degrees in steel vats and spends about 3 months in this state. Subsequently, the wine is placed in American oak barrels, where it spends another 3 years.
