Paul Cluver Wines

The family-owned Paul Cluver Winery is located in the Elgin Valley, approximately 70 km southeast of Cape Town. It was founded in 1896 by the Kluver family, who have German roots. The winery was the first in the region to produce low-alcohol wines, taking advantage of the cool microclimate. The estate is part of the De Rust Estate, an integrated farming enterprise where, in addition to wine production, the family grows pears and apples, and also offers eco-tourism services. Part of the farm is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Kogelberg Biosphere.

Today, Paul Cluver is the fourth best winery in South Africa according to Tim James. At the Drinks Business Green Awards in 2010, the company took second place in the Ethical Company Award category.
