Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Altesino
Interesting Facts
First created in 1972, Brunello di Altesino is still made using the traditional method. The grapes come from the Altesino, Macina and Pianezzine vineyards, located at an altitude of 250-280 meters above sea level, on clay-sandy soils. They were planted in 1981, 1987 and 1999. The grapes are hand-picked in September. Vinification takes place in steel tanks, including cold maceration for 1-2 days, fermentation at a temperature of 27-30 °C for 15-20 days and post-fermentation maceration for 7-10 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for at least 2 years in Slavonian oak barrels of 5,000 and 10,000 liters and aged from 5 to 20 years. After bottling, the wine matured in bottles for at least another 4 months.
