Imperial Gran Reserva, Rioja DOC
Interesting Facts
Imperial is one of the greatest names in Spanish winemaking. This is a true Rioja classic, first made in the 1920s. It is produced only in the most special vintages. The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes. The berries undergo double selection, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The bunches are kept chilled to improve fruit extraction and color stability. Next, the grapes are sent to small oak vats for maceration at low temperature for several hours. This is followed by fermentation with local yeasts at a controlled temperature of 28 to 29°C. The wine is aged for two years in American and French oak barrels (new and second passage), followed by aging in bottles for at least three years in the estate's centuries-old cellars.
