Interesting Facts
Smaragd is the highest category of Wachau wines. The name comes from the beautiful emerald-green lizard that can be found in warm and sunny places in the vineyards. Smaragd wines are dry, full-bodied and complex wines with great aging potential. Smaragd is a registered trademark of Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus e.V. The grapes were carefully harvested in mid-October. The average yield is 6,000 kg per hectare. All vinification and aging processes take place in stainless steel.
